Product Description

A very good and early walnut chair exhibiting superior craftsmanship and design, almost certainly by the Giles Grendey workshop.

This classic chair from 1710-1720 has a great shape with swept-back rear legs and pronounced curvature to the back and splat, using elements of Chinese design so popular at the time.

The signature IW places it firmly in the Grendey orbit. Grendey was a prolific producer with a large workshop who also employed independent craftsmen who would sign their work to ensure payment.

A superior chair in great condition and with good color.

England, London c. 1710-1720
