A magnificent and long set of Greek and Egyptian inspiration from a design by George Smith’s seminal work “A Collection of Designs for Household Furniture and Interior Decoration,” 1808.  This design being plate 141 first published on July 1st, 1805. Designers in the first decade of the nineteenth century including Smith, Thomas Hope and Thomas Sheraton were influenced by the discoveries taking place in excavations in Greece and Egypt and strongly promoted classical designs of the ancient world.

Acquired recently from a client who had bought them from a prominent London dealer over 30 years ago. (Felt to the bases replaced)
