Product Description

This very rare table extends with its two leaves to 91 1/2 inches and with the leaves removed is a perfect breakfast table with dimension of 54 1/2 inches wide and 47 1/2 inches deep. When removed the leaves may be stored in the compartment beneath the table top.

The trestle base with leaf compartment is an unusual feature and derives from the campaign furniture that Morgan and Sanders was famous for providing to the nobility of England for their forays to the Empire.

The firm of Morgan and Sanders was established in 1800 by Thomas Morgan & Joseph Sanders who had both worked for the cabinet maker Thomas Butler at 13-14 Catherine Street London. They formed their firm in competition to Butler next door at 16 and 17 Catherine Street. Sanders died in 1818 and the firm closed in 1820. A feature of some of their dining tables is the distinctive engraved handle listing the company name and address.

A very desirable and rare piece.

English c.1810
