Product Description

A very fine writing table in padouk with boxwood line inlay with a gilt tooled black leather writing surface, extensively applied with finely cast and chased gilt brass decoration, on gilt lions paw casters and with a gilt gallery.

The superb quality of the mounts and the cedar linings to the two drawer strongly point to an attribution to John McLean (active 1770-1825).

This table was illustrated in M. Harris & Sons, Centenary Book 1968, page 106. The catalog was published in 1968 to celebrate the prominent London dealer’s 100th anniversary and illustrated the major pieces they had handled over the years.
