DESCRIPTION

Of diminutive size and in remarkable original condition, the top with feather banding inlay opening to a beautifully figured walnut surface, over four long drawers terminating in bun feet, the front of the carcass with double half round moldings.

An interesting decoration to the chest is double lines of feather banding running vertically in the center of each drawer simulating individual short drawers. All the brass hardware to the drawers is original as are the steel hinges to the top as well as the bun feet. Overall construction of walnut over oak and deal.

A very good example of this desirable form, and Adam Bowett in Early Georgian Furniture 1715-40 on page 107 illustrates a very similar example from the collection of Apter Frederichs and notes that early bachelor's chests with ball feet and half-round moldings are rare.

Provenance: A Chicago Private Collection

English, c. 1715-20
