DESCRIPTIONThe circular tilt top of beautiful naturally faded Goncalo Alves inlaid with a wide marquetry band of fruiting vines above an elegant parcel gilt and bead molded shallow frieze, the paneled triform columnar support decorated with marquetry palmettes, and raised on a triform base with carved lion's paw feet and brass casters. The design of this table and in particular its distinctive inlaid base comes directly from a form made famous by Thomas Hope in his Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, published in 1807 (pl.XXXIX). The addition of a gilt band between the top and the frieze to soften the line of the table indicates a superior maker. A very fine piece of design and craftsmanship that defines the Regency Period.
