DESCRIPTION

An interesting cabinet made with good quality mahogany and brass corners that are better quality than the norm, the two doors opening to reveal two adjustable shelves.
Interestingly the base to the cabinet/cupboard is in unveneered pine indicating that the piece was intended to sit on another table rather than hang from a wall where the base would have been visible. Indeed there is no indication that the piece was ever wall mounted.
The two doors have inset floating panels secured by well shaped moldings but the quality of the brass corners really stands out when compared with comparable items, as they have been carefully shaped to accommodate the door and provide maximum support. Unlike most campaign cupboard furniture this piece does not have side carrying handles, indicating that on-one has in the past tried to “enhance” it.

Condition: Excellent although there is evidence that interestingly in the keyhole escutcheon had once been replaced by a surface mounted one that had been reduced in size. Possibly this occurred while overseas, as the current escutcheon appears to be an historic replacement.

English, probably London c 1840-1850
